The EngExec credential is important to me as it communicates that I am an engineer and in a senior leadership role. The Chartered credential in Leadership and Management also provides recognition on a global scale.

It holds the prestige that I am a role model for the future and allows me to talk and inspire the up and coming generation of leaders as well. It also provides the opportunity to improve engineers standing with the community.

The credential shows that, as my career has progressed, I’ve build upon my technical competencies, to develop my leadership capabilities. For me the EngExec recognises and demonstrates that I have become a well rounded leader with a variety of skills at my finger tips.

These are invaluable when leading teams aiming to achieve outcomes that extend beyond purely technical solutions. There’s nothing more humbling than the recognition of my achievements by my professional peers.

EngExec status is not just about our past personal and professional achievements, important as they are.

It’s also about the future, and providing people with numerous opportunities to exchange information, network with peers, and keep up to date with the latest engineering innovations.

It’s a valuable initiative, and I’m proud to be part of it.

As head of a large multidisciplinary engineering team at UGL, my role requires competencies in Leadership, Management and Business in addition to technical discipline competencies. The Leadership and Management competencies assessed and recognised by EngExec are aligned with my current role and indeed with other engineering management roles I have fulfilled.

I would recommend the attainment of the EngExec competency standard for engineers looking for career progression into leadership and management roles and to complement the technical discipline competencies recognised by chartered status.

I am an Engineering Executive of Engineers Australia and proud of it.

The role I hold in my company requires me to provide top level advice in Engineering Leadership and Management to clients and having been accredited as an Engineering Executive gives me the confidence and the clients peace of mind that the advice given has substance.

Furthermore, as an Engineering Executive, the ‘up and coming generation’ of Leaders and Managers would at least hear me out when it comes to matters associated with Engineering Leadership and Management.

We draw satisfaction from the contributions we make to our chosen fields in our own way, but occasionally its nice for others to notice what we do. The recognition provided by Engineers Australia as an EngExec re-enforces what I already knew, that I am competent to successfully lead and manage people and projects.

Being an EngExec allows me to impress upon others those same qualities, furthering engineering as a professional and worthwhile pursuit.

The exclusive EngExec and Fellow events have provided great opportunities to network and develop relationships with other senior members of the engineering fraternity. The events have also offered very interesting speakers in a forum that is easier to engage with them.

The application and assessment process provided a great opportunity for me to reflect on my career and achievements, and recognise my successes. While gaining chartered status was a long term personal achievement which recognised my technical proficiency, I valued the award of EngExec more as it recognises my development as a senior engineering leader.

It’s caused me to re-engage with Engineers Australia, attend more events, and promote the benefits of professional development to younger engineers.

EngExec leaders are the engineering role models of the future - I would love to see all of our senior engineering leaders proudly declare themselves EngExec and encourage the next generation of engineers to join the profession.

EngExec differentiates those leaders with an engineering background in an industry saturated with leaders of all disciplines and backgrounds. I am proud to display the EngExec credentials after my name as this an important recognition of my engineering leadership journey.

In 2018, I was fortunate to become an Engineering Executive of Engineers Australia.  I have been a Chartered civil engineer since year 2000, and have always been deeply proud of my structured professional training through the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and Institution of Civil Engineers London. I am deeply honoured to be a Chartered civil engineer, and believe strongly in the importance of having chartership status to recognise professional engineers.

In my company, I carry out various leadership roles and am deeply passionate about creating opportunities for all people of our country. I am a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion, being a champion for the development of generations of future engineers by being a champion of STEM, and mentoring the future leaders in engineering.  Being an Engineering Executive provides me with a platform to drive the change I want to see in my industry, as well as to do all I can to show that engineers truly care for everyone in our community.

Obtaining my EngExec was a wonderful opportunity to test my accomplishments with an independent party that sees the very best our industry has to offer and realise what I have achieved in my career. EngExec is recognition that I am able to not just manage projects, but am competent developing and implementing business strategies to effectively lead people and teams which I love doing.
